Songlines are the narrative of the dreaming, the time of creation. They trace the journeys of ancestral spirits as they created land, animals and lore. 'Songlines East Of The Murrumbidgee' is a contemporary reflection of my ancestral songlines.
My ancestors from the land of the Wiradjuri and Ngunnawal together moved East of the Murrumbidgee to the Illawarra, the land of the Dharawal people, on the coast of Australia. The Murrumbidgee, Lachlan, Macquarie and Shoalhaven river depict the dreaming tracks of my ancestors.
Contemporary art forms and traditional language which is a reflection of white interpretation, is used to emphasise my contemporary cultural being as an Aboriginal person, to reflect the impacts of white colonisation.
